Gilgit-Baltistan-Chitral

Welcome to My memories

Irfan Mahmood - Islamabad (Pakistan)

A peep into the past ; "the life given us by nature is short, but the memory of a life well spent is eternal," :: a struggled story: : In our lives there are different phases, rather a mixture of bitter plus sweet flavours coupled with many ups and down. One has to accept reality as people come and go. The only thing that remained lasting is your memories which never die. Memories has always been a great asset. Scrolling past is not easy for anyone. Majority of people don't interfere in their past lives whether it was colourful or black & white. Most of our life time we spend in school/college and University. That was memorable period which provides us basis for the future. We people are very emotional about school/college life. So let me flash back to explore some memories that may be hard but can be now beautiful. My efforts for schooling i.e. primary & middle education is though, from my native village Changa Bangail and adjacent Qazian and Changa Mera, the remote villages in Tehsil Gujar Khan and District Rawalpindi. But all these were extremely hectic and totally weird and incredible. Getting education in that environment had been made an adventure for me and yet I remember a story somewhere in the book which starts like that there was a man who go to jungle and cuts firewood............. so and so. If I look back, it reminded me when I used to keep wood splitter axe in my school bag besides books as I had to arrange firewood for home. Otherwise I had to come again for this purpose. It was one strange compulsory subject for me. Terrible, imagine in a hot summer when long shadow appeared with ascary look. and when there were no other humane being after 4-5 p.m. how it was frightened for a 8th class student in a pin drop silence around in the jungle! One can only heard birds noise. It was totally unique in a sense and even now that scene cannot be replay and pray never to happen around us. It was a terrifying session of schooling in the end. In the world, we all know when a child is born parents start thinking about their education. Role of parents to give their children good education is very important and it is their duty. Unfortunately, in my share I start my life independently without any guidance or direction with self finance. Treatment and education of this kind I was receving only last upto 8th class. Yes, only 8th class with lot of hurdles. Being the weak foundation, a dream for higher education is meaningless. Getting schooling with this angle/ treatment perhaps is a nightmare and will be remembered for ever. May be it is not a proper place for all that but it should not be a soar being in my heart. In my opinion I support this saying; "things that were hard to bear are sweet to remember."

Anyhow all this compelled me to leave and I went to Karachi and managed to pass my Intermediate from Wafaqi Government Urdu College, Karachi and somewhat lately, when a time come to be independent for me I did Bachelor of Arts from Allama Iqbal Open University, Islamabad after returning back from Karachi. What am today, settled in Islamabad. My memories spread from Changa Mera in between jungle (some 8-10 km distance on foot) my native village Changa Bangail and of across to Urdu College and to Gilgit-Baltistan. From one place to other and one desert to some big mountains. I respect my teachers especially Master Khuda Dad whom I used to go to school like trekkers & cannot foreget some 3 years attachment to that area/some 15 years being in Karachi. Practical life is another assignment and some difficult. I left Karachi and settled in Islamabad. My children are from Gilgit-Baltistan. Now thinking, where does the time go?

In whole period I did not remember all that but Jungle, firewood........terrifying evening...that helplessness.....pin drop silence.........follow me like a shadow. By scrolling that moments how possible to stop tears which rolled down the face, unwillingly, how incredible all these? It is true that “……..memories good and bad will bring tears, and words can never replace feelings.”

What am lacking today is don't want to repeat again especially, proper educational opportunity that could provide me proper way. I wish I could get that resources for my education. To undo all this. now my aim is to arrange these for Muhammad Azlan (son) and my daughter in their lives and make them good human being and this can only be achieved by giving them proper education. As saying is "Nobody can go back and start new beginning, anyone can start today and make a new ending."

Anyway, during the period, a part of my life spent in Karachi tried to be free of all worries. I used to take part in different curricular or extra-curricular activities. The most memorable learning time of my life was the participation of Radio Pakiatan Karachi prgoram 'Bazam-e-Tulba. Though program-wise my participation was limited, however, I never missed interaction with the students of different colleges/ university and other social activities. Encouragement from famous comperers of Bazam-e-Tulba, Mirza Yaseen Baig, now in Canada, Yaqoob Ghaznavi, Shahid Masroor were really source of making me aware of different field. . I never forget valuable advice of my colleagues. I must acknowledge their loves and always feel their presence to be with me in shape sweet memories. These include: Tasneem Sana Khan, now in USA, Abdullah College, Uzair Ahmad Madni, Rukhsana Naz Ambreen, Samin Rafi, Raheela Firdous, Munaf Habib Tabassum, Naeem Qureshi, Idrees Ghazi, Malika Afroz Roheela. They are in practical lives. God blessed all of them and pray for better future of their children. Keep in touch with me through this platform.
